Prayer for September 30, 2026
From Steve Richardson
God in heaven and in our midst: Make your presence known to us during these moments of prayer.
You are an ever-flowing fount of love, hope, joy, grace, comfort and peace. Created in your image, teach us ways to be more like you. Guide us to be people who yearn for selfless justice and who shun selfish justice.
It’s so easy to be distracted by the ups and downs of the things always happening everywhere we go. Help us as we set our priorities today, tomorrow and each day that follows, so they align with your purposes. Of course, as you know, there are often times when our priorities are set for us by people and matters beyond our control. For all these, give us the flexibility, patience and perseverance to fulfill our commitments through actions that sustain or build your kingdom.
Lord, you surely know the pain and toils of grief, brokenness, health problems, insecurity, fear, injustice, disrespect, loneliness, negligence, violent conflict between your people, hatred, prejudice, economic uncertainties, and the many, many other difficulties we encounter. Honestly, God, such circumstances sometimes lead us to question your presence and grace. In moments of doubt, restore and sustain our faith. Through prayer, through scripture, through the kindness of others, and through support by your church community, refresh our tired spirits with your everlasting love and promises of hope.
We’re grateful that you always turn toward us, never turning away from us. We don’t know why you choose to do this time-after-time, especially when we’re the ones prone to turn away. Channel us, Lord, to accept and sense your unwavering presence and to strive to always be turning toward you.
God of Grace, hear and respond to these earnest prayers of others in our congregation. Hold close all represented here with your loving presence and comfort…

And now we open our minds and hearts to you, gracious God, remembering the prayer Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
