Week of August 26, 2026

Holy One,
With grateful hearts and the assurance of your love and grace, we lift our praise and supplications to you this evening. Spirit, we give thanks for the ways you hold us in community, even when we are apart, and we join our hearts together now.
You created us in your image, O God, not only as diverse individuals, but as persons who live and thrive in loving community. The friends and family we love, the coworkers who work beside us, and even those with whom we have a chance encounter are all vessels of your love and grace. We are to each other a means of experiencing your grace in this world, and we thank you for the people who bear your image in our lives.
We give thanks for the life and witness of Dolly Parton, for her music, her inner light, and her unceasing generosity. She was an instrument of your goodness in so many ways to so many people, and she will be missed. May her example continue to inspire others to love and give and serve generously.
We confess that fear often influences us to withhold our resources. We are afraid we do not have enough money, time, or skill to make a difference. And sometimes we fear that we will not have enough for ourselves if we share those resources with someone else. Forgive us, Lord. Remind us that we are merely stewards of the gifts you’ve given to us and that your grace is sufficient. There is more than enough if we trust in you to supply our every need.
Some in our community have specific needs, and we lift those to you now:
We pray for ….
- A member’s son as he enters treatment and for his family while they are apart.
- Members who are caregivers for their family members.
- A member who will have surgery this week.
- A member’s daughter-in-law as she receives cancer treatments.
- A member who is scheduled for a CT scan this week.
- A member who is looking for the cause and best treatment for persistent pain.
- A member’s sister and sister’s family as her condition progresses.
- Members whose loved one has died.
We continue to pray for …
- A member figuring things out after a cancer diagnosis.
- A member who has entered end-of-life care.
- A member’s family as they grieve.
- A family facing an extended separation from one another.
We give thanks for ….
- Loved ones who are no longer hospitalized.
- The improving health of a member’s grandson.
- The doctors and nurses caring for our friends and family members.
- Our church musicians and the gift of music.
Intercede on behalf of these persons, O Christ. We pray now these words which you taught your disciples:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
