Prayer for October 21, 2026
by Rev. Amber Lloyd
Ever-Present God,
Pausing in this moment to listen, we can hear all the sounds of our busy lives. Engines crescendo as cars cross the bridge and onto the interstate. Peals of laughter come from the hall as colleagues check in with each other and collaborate over shared work. Outside, the birds sing about the changing of the seasons while the familiar soundtrack of family and friends plays in the background. We give thanks for this music and the myriad ways you speak to us. We are listening for your voice, O God, as we pray together today.
We confess that, as needful creatures, our prayers are often single, melodic lines that rise and fall with the currents of our emotions. Our petitions and frustrations dominate the score and leave no room for response. When the questions and the searching of our hearts hang unresolved, we cannot bear the tension and instead fill the silence.
When your voice is difficult to hear or the waiting too maddening, your Word reminds us that you are good to those who wait for you. We can abide in your steadfast love because you will never leave us or forsake us. In the ways which we can best understand, Lord, show us how to rejoice over us. We want to hear you as you exult over us with loud singing! Speak clearly to us through the music of our lives, and help us wait when you are silent.
We lift the concerns of our hearts to you now…
We pray for ….
- A member’s health as they wait for a diagnosis.
- For a member’s upcoming medical testing and doctor’s appointments as well as navigating a recent chronic illness diagnosis.
- All persons who are free, detained, or in fear of being detained, that they may be treated love and respect and afforded due process.
- A member’s nephew as he navigates life as a college freshman.
We continue to pray for …
- A friend who has been separated from her child and struggles with her mental health.
- A family who is traveling and transitioning during this season. May they safely and joyfully reunite after a long separation.
- Direction for a member recently widowed.
- A niece in danger of losing her eyesight and wisdom for physicians who treat her.
- A family surrounding a young mother who is dying of pancreatic cancer.
- A friend’s family member who needs sound, spiritual guidance.
- That our civic leaders will govern with respect, compassion, and justice for all.
- A member’s friend for the passing of his wife. Prayers for comfort and healing.
- A friend who is looking for guidance to go through life with a strong spirit.
- A member who recently lost her sister and brother-in-law, and for her nephew as he grieves.
We are listening for your response, O God, and join our voices together to pray these
ancient words,
Our Father, who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name,
thy kingdom come,
thy will be done,
on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
and the power, and the glory,
forever. Amen.
