UWF Women in Fellowship Meeting Returns September 8
Fall is nearly here and UWF’s Women in Fellowship Meeting is back with a unique and timely topic – the voting process.
The League of Women Voters of Knoxville-Knox County is dedicated to empowering voters and defending democracy. Its president, Lisa Plawchan, will join us to speak on voting rights and how to build relationships with our elected officials.
Lisa has driven innovative, result-oriented initiatives to strengthen democracy in East Tennessee, including Be Vocal. Vote Local., a grassroots campaign to boost voter turnout in historically low turnout precincts, which successfully increased turnout in four of five targeted precincts in 2024. This year, LWVKKC expanded the campaign by mailing 6,000 postcards to registered voters in 20 low turnout precincts, and much more. Lisa excels at building consensus across diverse groups and delivering innovative, win-win solutions.
Join us at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 8 for this powerful program, followed by lunch at noon. Use the following link to register for lunch ($10).

UWF September Book Review- following the Meeting & Lunch: 1 p.m. on September 8
Features “Social Justice for the Sensitive Soul: How to Change the World in Quiet Ways” By Dorcas Cheng-Tozun
About the book: “Social justice work, we often assume, is raised voices and raised fists. But what does it look like for those of us who don’t feel comfortable battling in the trenches? Sustaining justice work can be especially challenging for the sensitive, and it requires a deep level of self-awareness, intentionality, and care to avoid overwhelm and burnout. However, those who consider themselves highly emotional, empathic, or introverted are wise, thoughtful, and conscientious. We need their contributions. Alongside inspiring, real-life examples of highly sensitive world-changers, author Dorcas Cheng-Tozun expands the possibilities of how to be a peacemaker and create positive social impact, affirming the particular gifts and talents that sensitive souls offer a hurting world.”
The book review begins immediately following the UWF Women in Fellowship meeting and lunch in the Chiles Room.
