Rev. Tim Best

God of heaven and earth,

You formed all creation out of nothing and fashioned each of us with great care and purpose. We praise you and give you thanks for all the blessings of this day. We praise you for the ways you brought us through all the challenges of yesterday, and our hearts are overwhelmed with knowledge of all the small ways you have shown your love in our midst. Help us to see with our hearts and to proclaim with our lives the many ways that your love is at work transforming us more and more into the likeness of your Son, Jesus Christ.

We thank you for the rain we have received over the last few days. Sometimes rain forces us to change our plans; it can make people feel sad, and too much rain can cause damage and destruction. Yet, we also know that rain nurtures, refreshes, restores, and fuels growth. Help us to be mindful of all the ways that you care for and restore each of us. We give you thanks for the ways you stretch us, grow us, and care for us in moments of sadness. As you care for your creation in small and subtle ways, help us to be ever aware of the small ways you care for each of us.

We pray for the needs of our world and of your people. Help us to support and care for the most vulnerable amongst us. Direct those who make decisions with how best to use our resources for the good of our community and the world. Help us to seek peace with one another. We often pray for peace throughout the world, and we pray for that peace even now, but help us to be peaceful within our own lives. Help us to make peace with one another. Teach us how to forgive, how to live peaceably with our neighbors, and to see the needs of the vulnerable in our midst. By your Spirit, give us the strength to live gently with one another.

Fill us with your joy and grant that whatever we face, and whatever challenges we encounter throughout this week, we may be ever mindful of the patience, mercy, and redemption shown to us by Jesus Christ. Remember those who cry to you in silence and defeat, and raise them to your risen life, for you have conquered sin and death and live forever. It is in faith of your triumphant love that we lift the concerns and joys of our Church Street family to you.

In confidence of your love and mercy, we join together in the prayer that your Son, Jesus Christ taught us, praying,

“Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done; on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, the power, and the glory, For ever and ever, Amen.”
