Gracious God,

As the day draws to a close and as night covers us, grant us rest, sleep, and renewal. Let us see the grace in the stillness of the night and the rhythms of life that call us to sleep. We give thanks for the tasks accomplished today, and we pray that you will help us set aside until tomorrow what is undone, trusting in your constant care for all things.

We give thanks for all the blessings we have encountered today. Help us to recount all the ways you made yourself known to us throughout the day. We are thankful for the ways that we have had to depend upon others, receiving help or advice from those you have placed in our lives. We praise you for the opportunities we were given today to serve you in caring for others.

Sustain those who are sick, weary, poor in spirit, or battling longterm illness. Guide those who care for others. We pray for doctors, for nurses, for loved ones sitting up praying and waiting. We pray for those who are grieving and filled with sadness. Your comfort surpasses all other attempts to soothe or ease spirits. Sustain each of us by your mercy, that whatever sufferings we face we might trust in you and find our lives supported by your constant grace and love.

As the sun sets on this day, help us to name our trespasses before you. We pray always “forgive us our trespasses,” but often these words pass over our lips and do not pierce our hearts. Help us to name where we have failed to be obedient to you and loving to our neighbors. Where we have failed, where we have sinned, help us to live more faithfully tomorrow. You see where we have fallen short, where we have harmed those that we love, and where we have failed to proclaim the gospel with our words and our lives. Forgive us and renew us as we seek to be transformed by the gospel and love you and others more fully and faithfully.

We pray for all the needs of this congregation and all those that we know and love. Receive from our hearts the needs and struggles of each of your people.

We pray for …

  • A wife who is grieving the death of her husband; may she feel the strength from all the prayers of family and friends.
  • Two daughters grieving the unexpected death of their mother.
  • A friend who is looking for a better job
  • A man praying for financial relief; wanting to buy a house for his family.
  • A member who is grieving after the death of her mother, but also celebrating what she has meant to so many!
  • A couple who are grieving after IVF disappointment; prayers as they consider options for starting a family.
  • Friends and family who are struggling and have special needs.
  • A member continuing to deal with health issues related to congestive heart failure.
  • Federal employees affected by shutdown; those who are worried about programs being cut.

We continue to pray for …

  • A son who is struggling with addiction.
  • A friend receiving chemo; prayers that the drugs work and her liver enzymes get better.
  • A friend whose tumor continues to shrink; may healing prevail!
  • A son to continue to thrive at school. Praying for his safety and well-being; may he know how much he is loved!
  • A husband going through cancer treatments for pancreatic cancer.
  • A caregiver making difficult decisions.
  • A son who continues to heal after cancer surgery.

We give thanks for ….

  • Great niece home from hospital.
  • New members who joined on Sunday.
  • All of the good information shared at Parish Health Ministry Team event.
  • Cooler weather

As we share these concerns with you, help us to trust the hope and promises of the prayer that your Son has taught us to pray as we pray it together:

Our Father, who art in heaven,

Hallowed be Thy name.

Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our trespasses,

As we forgive those who trespass against us.

And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.

For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever. Amen.
