All gratitude and thankfulness we give to you, gracious God.

You sent your Son, Jesus Christ, that all the world would be nurtured and fed by your love. As families and friends gather together for food and time with one another, grant your blessings and peace to all who are gathering, and your be present with those who will labor or be alone. We pray for the day when all shall be fed, when those who hunger and thirst for righteousness will be filled.

As leaves cover the ground, and nature enters a cycle of rest, grant rest to those who are weary. Make us mindful of retail workers that will begin a season of long hours and demanding service. Help each of us, as we interact with retail workers, servers, and all those whose labor makes our modern lives possible, to show dignity and respect. Teach us to find rhythms of rest, to find beauty in the fallow seasons of our lives, and to help create sabbath rest not simply for ourselves but for those around us.

Thanksgiving marks the beginning of a season filled with joy and celebration for many. See the needs of those for whom this is a difficult season. Tend to those who are grieving, to those experiencing suffering in their own lives or the suffering of those they love. Be with all who find themselves with less joy as the days grow shorter, colder, and darker. May the light of your love penetrate even the darkest spaces of our hearts and sustain us through difficult days.

Guide our church, Church Street UMC, in this season, that we might engage in mission, proclamation, and service. In our worship and our work together, we seek to discover your presence in our midst. Work compassion in each of our hearts, and mercy in our daily actions. We share our prayer concerns each week because we trust that in your love for us and for the world you see the needs of your people. Be at work in each of the situations that are named in the joys and concerns we share with you and one another now:

  • What are you thankful for this season? Take a moment to offer your own prayers of gratitude!

In trust that we can daily seek your grace we join together in praying the prayer that our Lord Jesus Christ taught us, saying,

Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
