Week of July 1, 2026
by Steve Richardson
Redeemer God in heaven and in our midst, you are our rock. You are constant, steadfast and sure. Yet your creation is always in transition. For some transitions we rejoice, for others we grieve. Some transitions are planned, others happen without warning. Some bring comfort, others bring anxiety. Some are easy, others are difficult. Some are fulfilling, others are disruptive. Some unite us, others divide us. Some we choose, others are chosen for us.
Thank you, gracious God, for traveling with us through our transitions, especially the tough ones. Thank you for times transitions turn into transformations that bolster your kingdom.
For their transitions on this July 1’st day, make your presence known to Reverends Catherine Nance, Sam Dzobo, Jonathan Jonas and Carol Price-Guthrie. We also pray for your continued blessings for Reverends Tim Best and Amber Lloyd, as well as all the staff of Church Street. For us as members during these transitions, give each of us grace to recognize that our task is less about preserving your church as “the way it’s always been,” but instead, participating in the church you are still forming.
In our own transitions, remind us to look to you: Where there is fear, bring peace. Where there is hurt, bring comfort. Where there is doubt, bring faith. Where there is disease, bring healing. Where there is brokenness, bring reconciliation. Where there is injustice, bring compassion. Where there is darkness, bring light. And Holy Lord, in addition to these petitions we ask for ourselves, also empower us to be your agents to bring help, hope, support and love to others in their troubling transitions.
Strengthen our faith. Warm our hearts. Touch our thoughts. Grant us grace.
We humbly ask you to attend to these needs and expressions of those in our church community. Surround each person with your loving embrace…
We pray for ….
A sister who needs peace.
A member grieving the loss of her sister.
A member waiting for test results and a treatment plan.
A member grieving the loss of their grandfather.
We continue to pray for …
A little boy receiving treatment at St. Jude’s.
Friends recovering from surgery.
We give thanks for ….
Our new pastor and his family.
And now we open our minds and hearts to you, gracious God, with the prayer Jesus taught us:
Our Father, who art in heaven,
Hallowed be Thy name.
Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory forever.
Amen.
