One of our favorite things about the spring semester each year is celebrating our graduating seniors.  Welcome to the Senior Spotlight series for the graduating class of 2024!  Our seniors answered interview questions earlier this semester and it has been so much fun learning their answers! Check back in each week to get to know our seniors better and help to cheer them on as they wrap up high school and prepare for their next steps.
Meet David Johnson!
What high school are you graduating from?
Karns High School
What are your plans for next year?
I have been accepted into East Tennessee State University’s Honors College and marching band. I plan to double major in Biology and Geosciences with a concentration in paleontology.
What is your favorite bible verse?
John 14:1–2, “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God, believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?”
If you could choose one meal to eat for the rest of your life, what would it be?
Fish and chips
If you could give some advice to your younger self, what would it be?
I am dyslexic. When I was in elementary school and learning how to read, it was very frustrating. I would tell my younger self, “don’t give up; it gets better.”
What are your top 3 favorite movies?
Jurassic Park III, Godzilla: King of the Monsters, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom
What is your top book recommendation?
Jurassic Park
What is your favorite Church Street memory?
Each year, I enjoy bringing my Argentine Red Tegu to the Blessing of the Animals because Pastor Rick gets so excited to see how much she has grown. I also really enjoyed visiting all of the different churches and Lake Junaluska during our confirmation year.
What are you most excited about going into the next season of your life?
I’m looking forward to spending time learning about paleontology at the Gray Fossil Site. I’m also looking forward to all of the things I will get to experience as part of ETSU’s Honors College Changemakers Program.
