College Scholarships
Each year, Church Street has the opportunity to support students pursing higher education through financial aid. These scholarship funds have been generously donated by the Ellis, Rasnake, and Stewart families to support the students of Church Street. Please read below to learn about the specifics of each scholarship.
To submit a scholarship application, each student must complete the application form (this single form applies for all three funds) as well as two reference forms with optional letters of recommendation. The links to these forms are at the bottom of the page.
These forms should be completed and submitted by Sunday, April 7, 2024. Because this form cannot be saved as a draft, please consider typing your responses in a separate document first and then copying and pasting them below. For questions, contact Jenny Cross at jcross@churchstreetumc.org.
The Carrie Ellis Memorial Scholarship is awarded to a student entering post-secondary education, who has been active in Church Street United Methodist Church. The criteria for selecting the scholarship recipient, in order of importance, are: 1) participation in the youth programs of Church Street UMC, 2) financial need, 3) strength of character and 4) potential for service. NOTE: The Carrie Ellis Memorial Scholarship is NOT awarded on the basis of academic potential or performance.
The Frankie Sherman Rasnake Scholarship is awarded for post-secondary education to one or more applicants with some close connection to Church Street United Methodist Church. The applicants’ financial needs are important considerations. Awards are also based on potential for leadership and/or academic achievement, demonstrations of high ethical and moral values, personal well-roundedness, potential for service, strength of character and strong motivations. Frankie Sherman Rasnake deeded the Bijou Theatre to Church Street UMC, which the church was able to sell to endow this scholarship and to promote other programs. This scholarship honors Ms. Rasnake’s dedication to and support of the church.
The Bain & Irene Stewart Scholarship is awarded for post-secondary education to one or more applicants who has been involved in the life of the church at Church Street United Methodist Church. The applicants’ financial needs are important considerations. The recipient of this award should possess a desire for spiritual growth, to invest in his or her community, and to pursue higher education as a means to acheive his or her future goals. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has a passion for life-long learning and seeks to make a difference in the world. The Stewart family has the highest regard for education and seeks to support students who reciprocate that sentiment.
