The United Methodist Church recognizes two sacraments: Baptism and Holy Communion. Note: The meaning of the word, sacrament, is "an outward and visible sign of an inward and spiritual grace."

Baptism
Through baptism, persons are initiated into Christ’s Holy Church and given new birth through water and the spirit. Whether it is a child being baptized or an adult, baptism is a covenant made between the family, God and the church.

We recognize all forms of baptism: sprinkling, pouring and immersion...and the baptism rites from other denominations. For your information, in the United Methodist Church persons are baptized most often by sprinkling, the sprinkling of water onto the head of the person begin baptized. Baptism is almost always done as a part of a worship service.  We believe that baptism involves commitments by the family or individual to live a Christian life and by the church to surround and support the persons being baptized as models of Christian living. Persons of all ages may be baptized in The United Methodist Church.

Communion
Communion is a sacrament of Christian worship which commemorates Christ’s final supper with his disciples. United Methodists practice "open communion" or "open table" where anyone "who seeks to live in relationship with God and with one another" is invited to participate. At Church Street, Holy Communion is observed on the first Sunday of each month and at the Wednesday midweek services.
