These are just a few of the benefits for participants and caregivers of the Kay Senior Care Center at Church Street. An outreach ministry, the Kay Center provides a safe and caring environment, which promotes independence, self-esteem, and dignity for memory-impaired seniors...enhancing the quality of life for the participants and their caregivers and supporting and strengthening the entire family.
The Center is open from 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday, and is located in room 123 of the Church Life Center.
Criteria
- Ability to adapt to group setting.
- Capable of basic self care.
- Open to all, regardless of religious affiliation. Church membership is not required.
- Physical release and emergency information required.
Benefits to the Aging Senior
- Increased self-esteem and greater independence
- Companionship & socialization.
- Memory stimulation & specialized physical fitness.
- Intergenerational activities with the church's Child Day Care Center.
- Pet therapy through HABIT (Human-Animal Bond in Tennessee).
- Music, arts & crafts, reminiscence, community outings, etc..
Benefits to the Caregiver
- Ability to pursue full-time or part-time employment
- Respite for personal errands, shopping or relaxing.
- An alternative to more expensive nursing home care or home health care services.
- Strength & support for the family structure.
- Referral to other agencies and resources as needed.
