Jim Fleming Lecture Series

Next Church Street series: November 1-2, 2008
Theme: To be announced!

Church Street UMC's Commission on Education seeks to help persons of all ages grow in their Christian discipleship by providing some of the best opportunities for ongoing Bible study in Sunday School classes, DISCIPLE Bible study, short-term classes, special seminars and lectures. We are fortunate to be able to provide church members and the greater community a Biblical seminar led by a person of Dr. Fleming's caliber. These seminars, scheduled in the fall, are funded through the operating budget of the church.

Dr. James FlemingDr. James Fleming

Dr. James Fleming is Director of Biblical Resources Study Center in Jerusalem, Israel, an ecumenical organization serving the whole body of Christ. He is also President of Biblical Resources, which produces audiovisuals for teaching Bible history. Dr. Fleming also serves as Director of Biblical Ministries at First UMC of Houston, Texas, where he is helping the church develop a biblical conference center bringing biblical media together with his Biblical Resources work in Jerusalem.

Dr. Fleming has lived and worked in Israel since 1974. Since that time he has developed courses of study in historical geography and biblical history uniquely tying the studies with the biblical text and emphasizing the coming together of faith and theology. Having studied in the United States and Israel, Dr. Fleming holds an Ed.D. degree from Southwestern Theological Seminary. In Israel, he teaches at the School of Overseas Students, Hebrew University, whose director has referred to Dr. Fleming's media lecture room as "the most sophisticated teaching center in the Middle East." As a cartography consultant with the Curriculum Department of the Israeli Ministry of Education, he illustrates government textbooks with maps and photographs. He also works with the Israeli Ministry of Tourism, teaching guides about important sites of the New Testament.
